My Mood Board

Brief 4 Music Video and online
One, three minute music video
Content must be suitable for broadcast on streaming sites such as YouTube and age appropriate for young adults from the age of 16
One homepage and one linked page
Cross-media production target audience a fun-loving 16–25 year old mass market demographic

In this task I'll explore different types of images, fonts and colours to use in my Music Video.  I shall be looking at different connotations and how these affect the way my target audience might view the target audience. By creating this mood board I will also be exploring creative ways to present my work.

Mood Board for Music Video

Mood Board for Website
This helped define my product because it enabled me to understand the schemes and branding that I will use that will be clear branding across the set products for the video it will be a RYB colour scheme to represent the bright culture and social background  of the artist. For the website it will be more of a purple and white colour scheme as it will show the culture and the buoyancy of the artist is. I will be using a few close up shots that will be use when the artist is singing. For example there will be a scene where the artist grabs the camera and the video transitions into his face. This is in addition to mid shots and long shots to show the scenery and background while the artist walks across. I will use serif fonts in the productions as it will look more casual and will be preferred by the 16-25 year old demographic. I will try to use intertextuality to add comedy to the music video. Im likely to use the Male Gaze in my production as it is stereotypically used in the pop genre of music.

NEA Research Part 7 - Producers/Directors Research

In this post I will be researching a load of music video producers linked to my chosen brief genre, paying attention to the use of conventions and the different styles they incorporate in the type of music videos they produce. I will also be making reference to some of their existing products. This will help me gain inspiration for my own video and learn some of their techniques for my own production of both the music video and the website. I think by understanding the producers in music video production, it will enable me to produce a music video that follows and reflects their style more effectively.

In conclusion I have learnt how the top quality music video editors use different techniques and editing skills to convey their messages and to support the messages of the artists in the video. I will try to use Dave Meyers style of using editing to support my final product and to give my video more meaning. I will use editing to give more meaning to the video by using my skills to exaggerate the artists emotion in the video. For example when the artist gets angry in the video I will edit the video and add drawing over the artist and give him red eyes along with him tensing up.

NEA Research Part 6 - Institutional Research

In this post I will be researching the Sony Music Institution, paying particular attention to the type of company that Sony is and the type of music videos they produce.  I will also be looking into how Sony's ethos is reflected in their products. This will give me ideas on how I can incorporate this into my own production of both the music video and the website. I think by understanding the institution linked to my chosen brief, it will enable me to produce a media text that follows and reflects Sony's style, ideologies and ethos more effectively.

Sony Produce:

  • Televisions & Home Cinema
  • Audio
  • Cameras
  • Mobile, Accessories & Smart Devices
  • Playstation

Sony is a conglomerate company. Some of their subsidiaries are:

  • Sony Pictures Entertainment
  • Sony Music Entertainment
  • Sony Financial Services
  • Sony Computer Entertainment
Sony makes a lot of its money from the playstation. From April to June 2018, Sony shifted 3.2 million PS4s - only 100,000 less than were sold during the same period last year. Just over 40 million games were purchased, and the number of PlayStation Plus subscribers is holding relatively steady at 33.9 million (down from 34.2 million at the end of March). In total, Sony's PlayStation arm brought in nearly $750 million in profit (JP¥83.5 billion), which is more than twice as much money as any other department.

In 2017 Sony made 7.27 billion USD

The mission of Sony Music Entertainment is to inspire the world to do great things through the influence of music by promoting inspirational melodies and lyrics.

I will incorporate the ethos and mission of Sony by adding subtle inspirational messages into the final music video. The mission statement is to inspire the world through melodies and lyrics. For example I will use lighting and colour correction effects to further imply the emotion shown in the lyrics and from the artist.
